Katie Bee Creative bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

My name is Katie Watson and I live in Southern California.  I'm married to a Navy Pilot so we have traveled the country coast to coast calling many different states our home. I am a Mom to 3 children and 2 cats. I am on the Design Team for Maya Road which I Love, Love, Love!! I love vintage anything and everything...I would rather rummage then organize and am just plain happy when I'm doing some form of art! I love mini books and altered projects and would describe my style as shabby chic mixed with thrift store randomness.

~Busy as a Bee and a Garage Sale Handkerchief Banner~

Buzz, Buzz……….started working on the scraproom and have to say, that it is coming along mighty fine.  I thought that I would have to wait until after CHA to start but then Derek and my FIL brought my new cabinet upstairs so I had no choice but to start something.  I did follow the advice of one poster(thanks Patty) and pulled a bunch of stuff out of the room and brought it back in as I organized.  It was a much better way to do it…I got WAY less overwhelmed.  Turns out, that new shabby cabinet can hold a bunch of stuff and I can close those doors and it looks so tidy!  I had Derek bring a plastic 6 foot table upstairs and set it up for me so that I didn’t have to do a lot of bending, which kills me.  It was easier to get a clearer picture then to be tripping on it the whole time.

Still lots to do but progress has been made and I feel much happier already.  Removed about an inch of dust also! Thanks to some organization Maddy’s stash pile just keeps getting taller and taller.  She is quite the little scrapbooker and altered artist.  She is a very creative girl.  I keep a sketch journal, where I sketch ideas…I add written details so that I don’t forget.  OK, I keep about 20 of them and also use whatever paper I find at the time…the back of receipts etc.  Well, Maddy has done the same thing and I found her little sketches the other day with all her handwritten project notes and it made me smile.  She is modeling me.  I loved it.  Made me smile.  Now if when she is being a snot and doing the chicken head at me, if I can just remember the little notebook…it might just save her butt one day!

So, I made another banner…………I’m seriously, addicted.  I love them.  This one is a bit different….NO scrapping supplies on this one.  Nope, not one.  I went to a garage sale a couple months ago and there were the prettiest handkerchiefs for sale.  50 cents each.  I had $1.  It was one of those garage sales that I was driving by after dropping the girls off at school and just had to stop.  It’s a family trait that has been passed down through the women of my family.  I’m serious.  Anyway, I was hoping that it would suck.  That there would be nothing that I wanted because I had a buck on me.  But of course, there were these beautiful handkerchiefs for 50 cents each.  I went to the car and dug around.  Found some quarters in the little money thing on the dashboard, of course they had melted chapstick on them and were a little sticky but I wiped them off the best I could.  Then I dug around the floor looking for loose change, found some french fries, a few pony tails and found a little stash of dimes and quarters underneath Maddy’s seat.  This is no surprise.  She was a bank robber in a past life.  So, I was able to buy 6………………it broke my heart to leave the rest but good gosh, I am not an addict, right? :)

So, I brought them home and could not figure out what to do with them.  I wanted to keep them intact and wanted to make a statement with them.  I don’t sew, so that was out of the question.  So it dawned on me.  A banner.

I wrote up instructions and my supply lists and mailed off 5 more publications today which was a big check off my TO DO list.  I am a procrastinator big time.  Scrapbook Trends, it’s on it’s way…..fashionably late.,

I drove down to San Diego to go to Cory’s Psychiatrist’s office to drop off some paperwork that we didn’t trust to mail.  Of course now that he is over 18, we need him to sign releases for everything.  So, I left Mission Valley and drove to El Cajon to get him to sign the release and he refused to come out of his room.  I was beyond frustrated with him, so finally I pushed it under the door with a pen and he signed it and sent it back under the door.  Nice seeing you too, Son.  We are trying to get him some more benefits as he’s not doing very well.  His depression and Social Anxiety are pretty high right now and his lack of survival skills make it hard for him to plow forward.  He has horrible panic attacks and seems to be in a bad cycle right now.  But we just have to take it one day at a time.  I haven’t given up.  I’m pretty much the last one, I think.

Then I went to Maddy’s allergist’s office in Poway, to drop off her new paperwork.  Looks like she needs an EPI pen for a pineapple allergy.  Don’t ask……….so weird.  She doesn’t have a food allergy to pineapple but has the other kind of allergy….like it can kill her if she touches it kind of thing.  The doctor said having that kind of allergy to pineapple is rare (pineapple is her peanuts, make sense?) and wanted to research the need for an EpiPen but it looks like we need one.  Turns out Pineapple is mixed in a bunch of box drinks.  Nice.  So lunchtime could be a problem.  One more thing to work on.

I am knee deep in CHA projects for the Maya Road booth……………….and can we say PURE JOY!  I wish I could give you some sneaks but it’s not quite time yet…the best I can do is to tell you that I am using this Studio Calico  paper on my favorite one and you will be amazed and think that it was made to go with this Maya Road product.  It’ll be for my scrapbook room after CHA.  Very cool!

370054_1000x1000 Woke up early the other morning to work on above project and heard some weird squawking outside, peeked out my scrapbook window and saw a large turkey trying his darnedest to impress the chicks.  Really, I do live in San Diego…kind of the outskirts and we have lots of wild turkeys here but it’s not too often that the males have their tails up in full glory like this one. They travel in a posse.   I ran downstairs, woke up Hannah and her and I walked down and did our best turkey gobbling and took a few pictures.  We love to gobble at the turkey’s.  Sometimes they do gobble back.  I don’t think our gobble is very accurate but we must occasionally hit a right note because we get a clear answer. Once again, I’m sure the neighbors thought we were crazy, hopefully they could see the turkey’s also and not just us in our pajamas gobbling like idiots.

Speaking of busy, I must get to bed…I work in Maddy’s class tomorrow and it is a crazy 2 hours.  I have to run 2 groups while the teacher does a very intensive group with 1/3 of the class.  Love Maddy’s teacher.  She is a wonderful teacher.  She is also a lawyer.  Smart lady.  I think she is the bee’s knees.  So off to bed I go…last night I had horrible nightmares all night..they just led from one to the next so I woke up not feeling rested at all.  One was I was in a dance competition and was all dressed up and felt all pretty and confident and then realized that I had no clue how to dance, didn’t know the routine and then when I went into the bathroom and saw myself , I didn’t look pretty at all but ugly.  Terribly ugly.  So now I was ugly and couldn’t dance.  That dream just led into my next nightmare about trying to save some kids from child abuse….it was twisted and sad and a lot of being chased.

So fingers crossed that I have sweet dreams tonight.

January 6, 2010 - 4:48 am Becky - I had to laugh when I read your comment about being "a procrastinator big time." Obviously we walk in the same shoes there! Those handkerchiefs are great finds! I have gotten some on ebay, but that ballerina one is to die for! We have a group of turkeys that hang out around our bike trail. The biggest one has been known to chase a jogger or two. I would love to get that on video...it is so funny to watch! Have a good rest of the week!

January 6, 2010 - 5:22 am Melissa - Oh, Katie... your hankies are too lovely! This is such a great way to be able to just look at your pretty things, instead of having them packed away. Oh, and btw: gobble gobble gobble!

January 6, 2010 - 5:40 am lorigentile - Katie, all I can say is you are too funny! I laughed at everything, except the allergy. I am sorry about that. My friend has the epipen, too. She has one for the teacher at school, one for her carrying bag/purse and one at home. It's a big adjustment. I'm looking forward to seeing your CHA work. :)

January 6, 2010 - 3:49 pm Pam Davis - OMG Katie, You make me tired just reading all you have going on. Can't wait to see your scraproom. I hope you are taking photos as you go. Love, Love, Love the hankerchiefs. I can really picture you and hear you and your daughter gobbling for the turkeys. We have lots of them around our area in MA too. Can't wait to see what you have been creating as well. Love all you do and am green with envy how your creative mind works.

January 6, 2010 - 4:44 pm Cathy - That hankerchief banner was the cutest thing! I love it. Great idea and darling way to display them.
