Katie Bee Creative bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

My name is Katie Watson and I live in Southern California.  I'm married to a Navy Pilot so we have traveled the country coast to coast calling many different states our home. I am a Mom to 3 children and 2 cats. I am on the Design Team for Maya Road which I Love, Love, Love!! I love vintage anything and everything...I would rather rummage then organize and am just plain happy when I'm doing some form of art! I love mini books and altered projects and would describe my style as shabby chic mixed with thrift store randomness.

~Sparkly Holiday House on a Stand~ Altered ribbon Roll stand!

You can find the tutorial on how to make this sparkly little house HERE!  I ran out of space to show how to make the ribbon spool on the Maya Road Blog…I mean it’s not hard but there are a couple of little tricks to make it easier.  I just wanted to show you how to do those so I am doing it on my own blog instead.

BTW, this is the Maya Road Bungalow and I used the super duper cute Cosmo Cricket Jolly By Golly paper called Merry Berry.

Ribbon Spool Tutorial……………..so easy!

img_5659

I save all my bigger, stronger ribbon spools for special little projects or project stands, as in this case.

img_5660

Trace the bottom of the spool onto paper and cut out your circle.

We need to cut out the hole in the center so I am rubbing with my finger to self emboss that hole shape and size onto my paper.  (You will see what I mean in the next picture)

Ignore, my super dry crafting hands that have been washed 1000 times this last couple weeks due to the H1N1 that took up residence in my home..can’t have pretty hands and be a crafter.

See the embossed circle?

Cut a line to the circle and cut out the circle.

Now, because we have to have this circle go around the center of the ribbon spool, it will need to be a little bigger…so start trimming a little bit at a time and check to see if it will fit on your ribbon spool.  If not, trim a little more.

Better to do a tiny sliver of paper then to trim too much.

Once it fits onto the spool…then we are ready to adhere it down.

I use Fabri-Tac, of course!

Next, cut a strip of paper the height of the spool and glue it to the spool.  You will just wrap it right around the spool and glue as you go, just like a roll of wrapping paper.

After I did this part, I used the left over scraps of the scallop punched strips from the house.  I glued the to the outside edge of the ribbon roll.  I then but a piece of Scallop Ric Rac and put glue along the top edge of it and tucked it under the scallop paper border and glued it into place to make another scallop layer.

I then traced and cut another circle out and glued it on the top of the spool.  I gave the bottom a border of Maya Road Sequin Trim for some sparkle and BAM, done!

The chandelier beads would be SO cute around the scallops of the ribbon but since I have so many on the house, it would be overkill…but next time…..!!

Here is another project that I did last Spring with another ribbon spool.  Same method.

out-for-publication

Ok, gotta run….enough blogging for today….it’s Derek’s birthday today, 38, wee hee..finally, I’m not an older woman anymore!!  For a few more months anyway!

I am gonna try to clean the rest of the house before he gets home as his birthday surprise…and I got him an antique cigar box at a garage sale very expensive antique store that the girls and I are putting letters to him in.  So, I gotta write that still.  He is a cigar fanatic!

Have a Great Monday!
